What is the Pocatello Zoning Code Rewrite all about?
The City of Pocatello, with assistance from consultant Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative (TPUDC), has kicked off a new project: “Zoning Pocatello: Coding for Character”. The goal of this effort is to rewrite the existing Zoning Code.
Why is the Zoning Code being updated?
In 2023, the City of Pocatello adopted the Comprehensive Plan 2040, a 20-year plan that lays out a vision for the future of Pocatello and its people (view the plan). Grounded in the principles of smart growth, the Comprehensive Plan identified the need to rewrite the Zoning Code so that those principles can be implemented.
The existing Zoning Code has been in place for decades, patched together through years of piecemeal updates and amendments that have left it difficult to use and understand, it's time for a rewrite. The result will be a well-organized, user-friendly Zoning Code that helps the community achieve the goals set out in the Comprehensive Plan.
Why should you be involved?
Zoning provides the rules regarding how land can be used within the City. As we look to update the zoning, we want to engage you in the conversation.
Don't know much about zoning? That's ok! Zoning affects the entire community, and through this process, we’ll help you understand why. The events held as part of this process are open to the public, and are a great way to learn more AND make sure your voice is heard!
